That was our topic tonight. We started out with a great YouTube on ants. Yes, ants. Do you know they only nap for about one minute at a time and standing up and then are right back to work, lifting and carrying and persevering through all sorts of terrain to care for their colony?
We played marshmallow toss then and for everyone they couldn’t catch using only a Solo cup, they lost one. They had to keep moving further and further from the person tossing the marshmallows to them too. The goal was to not give up until they had ten marshmallows in their cups.
We looked at a few Scriptures then, how Jesus persevered through some incredibly difficult circumstances, and talked about how we can use His example to persevere through our own tough times.
2 Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Romans 5:3-5 – Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
We ended with the clip from Facing the Giants where bad-attitude football player Brock is asked to do the death crawl across the field with his 160-pound teammate on his back…blindfolded. Talk about perseverance!
It was our last night as the group we now are. Next week is promotions night. Parents feel free to come and see your youth that are moving up graduate to the next level. See you then!
