Peanut Butter and Jelly Crazy Night

Tonight we had the first of 3 Crazy/Messy Nights! Tonight’s special ingredients were Peanut Butter and Jelly! Each child participated at 4 different centers. Each center focused on a Bible Truth and was discussed before they could “get messy”.

CRUSH the SIN!!!

Psalm 51:8 – Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

We talked about the sin in our life, how sin affects our life and how we need to “name” our sin, turn away from it, and ask God to forgive it.  To make it “stick” the kids used a hammer to crush grapes and peanuts.  They loved it.

Colossians 3:20 – Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

We talked about how important and how hard it is to obey sometimes. The kids were then given 4 steps to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich….problem is they were out of order. The first step was to spread peanut butter on half… but there was no bread…so the kids had to spread peanut butter and jelly on their hands…. it was great!!

2 Corinthians 13:11 – Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

This activity was my favorite. First we tied drumsticks to the elbow side of both arms of every child – so they couldn’t bend their arms. Then they made a “no bake peanut butter ball” mixing peanut butter, rice krispies and powdered sugar together. Then we told the kids to “eat”… but they couldn’t! They couldn’t bend their arms. We referred them back to the scripture… and they deduced they had to help each other eat! It was great!!!

Psalm 139 – 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Finally for the evening we reminded the kids that they are fearfully and wonderfully made… by an amazing Creator. We talked about “you” in the scripture meant God. Then it was their turn to create with only peanut butter and jelly. They fingerpainted with it! They thought we were crazy!

We had a fantastic night and I look forward to our next 2 crazy nights! July 17 and Aug 21!!!

Special thanks to Lacie, Jessica, and John Ellis for leading centers with me! And thank you Jennifer Nichols for watching Jayda!!
